Dear Friends & NGM Supporters,
It is hard to believe that the 17th Annual NGM Conference is only about four and half months away. We always look forward to this annual event because we know that in the past the Conference has been a great source of blessing for many Native and non-Native people. Once again we are optimistic in our faith and looking forward for God to bless us with another wonderful spiritual Conference. We hope and pray that you can make it this year. Ottawa is a beautiful city and summer is a good time of the year to enjoy a weekend spiritual retreat in our nation's capital city. Bring your family and make it a holiday before school starts in the fall.
To host the Conference is always a big step of faith for NGM because we are a non-profit Christian organization. We don't get any government grants to host the Conference but we just simply put our faith and trust in God to supply all our needs. The Conference is always a major expense because it costs money to do the Lord's work. The Conference as always is free of charge. However, we rely upon the goodwill offerings to cover the Conference costs, which include the special guests' hotel accommodations, meals, travel, honorarium and other related administrative expenses. It would be accurate to say that this year's Conference will probably cost about 10,000.00. I should mention that the offerings we take at the Conference do not cover all the expenses so we have to rely on other donations that come in through our office.
Last night when I went to play hockey in Kanata, I stopped to buy some gas in Ottawa. While I was filling up at the gas station an elderly non-Native woman came up to me and asked if I had some spare change to help her out. I saw this same woman panhandling in parking lots, usually outside a mall, so this was not the first time she asked me for money. My heart went out to her and even though I didn't have too much money on me, I knew I was in a position to help her out. Instead of giving her some of the loose change in my pocket I decided to give her a five dollar bill. She must have thought she hit the jackpot because her eyes just lit up and a big smile came upon her face. It was nice to see her reaction because what I did was in obedience of what God had laid upon my heart. The Bible tells us it is more blessed to give than to receive. We are trusting God to work in the hearts of His children to give generously towards the Conference costs. A couple of years ago a Native Christian man from one of the Cree communities told me that God had laid upon his heart to give 3,000.00 for the Conference. He followed through of what God had put in his heart to give. We were so blessed by his generous gift and I knew that God would also bless him in His own special way. Could you pray about giving a special gift towards the NGM Conference this coming year. Give as the Lord has prospered you.
